The report said that Napoli and Juventus were mooted to be in line for his services and Chelsea would have budged to his sale, to either clubs.

But with David Luiz getting more time on the pitch, amid being heavily linked to Napoli eight weeks ago, it looks unlikely he will be axed from Sarri’s squad.

The Brazilian international has won Sarri’s heart and admiration, having been picked ahead of an aging but experienced Gary Cahill, Andreas Christensen and Ethan Ampadu in the Italian’s quartet backline.
