Official : Chelsea announce new head coach to take over

Sunday, July 1, 2018

Premier League club Chelsea have announced that former Blues defender Andy Myers will take over from Jody Morris as Chelsea’s new U18s head-coach.

The new head coach will have some big shoes to fill with Morris guiding the academy youngsters to the quadruple last season before he left to become Frank Lampard’s assistant at Derby County.

Myers is also one of the Chelsea former players that have become part of the backroom staff at the Bridge, spending some time as the assistant manager of the development squad.

Myers was also the assistant manager at Vitesse Arnhem before he returned to Cobham last summer to be assistant to Joe Edwards and the development squad once again.

“Andy has been coaching in a number of roles at the Academy for the past decade so he knows our programme extremely well and, as an ex-player, has a strong connection to the club.

“It’s a well-deserved move into a head coaching role and I know Andy is looking forward to continuing his work with the development of our young players.”

Myers was a product of the Chelsea academy himself, before playing for the club for eight years ahead of spells at Bradford City, Colchester United, and Brentford.

While it is a boost for the club to have their manager in place, it wasn’t quite the appointment that Chelsea fans were hoping for, with the first team managerial situation not sorted yet.
