Man United told to pay £60million to sign 19-goal striker: report

Saturday, June 9, 2018

According to the Mirror, West Ham United could agree on a £60m deal with Manchester United for Marko Arnautovic. The Londoners would prefer to keep their star, while manager Jose Mourinho previously played down wanting another attacker, but adding more goals to the squad has now become a priority, it seems.

The 29-year-old has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in the last few months and Mourinho was reportedly watching the forward as Austria beat Russia in last week’s international friendly. But United would have to pay a sizeable amount of money to bring him to Manchester.

Arnautovic joined West Ham last summer from Stoke City and has gone on to make 35 appearances in his debut season, scoring and creating 19 goals in all competitions. The Hammers have made it clear that the 70-cap forward isn’t for sale, but they could agree on a deal if United pay £60m.

The valuation is intended to scare off any interest, but with Mourinho calling off his search for a left-back to instead find cover for striker Romelu Lukaku, he could yet make a move for Arnautovic. He managed the 29-year-old briefly at Inter Milan and may renew acquaintances this summer as he seeks another centre-forward to challenge Manchester City for next season’s Premier League title.
